Not really a con, but drive is thinner than other brands.
|
As mentioned, I am surprised to find the drive thinner (and lighter) than a comparable WD. It caused me some trouble fitting it into a sata enclosure, but a bit of tape solved the problem.
Got it for $60 on sale, which is great. Larger capacity drives might be cheaper per MB but I am wary of putting all my eggs (or data) onto a single huge hdd.

Bought 2 on Boxing Day, 1 was DOA. After RMA they are now in RAID 0 connected to my Intel SATA2 ports (my SSD is on the SATA3 slots). HD TACH results 340mb/s burst, 190mb/s avg read.
Performance is great and blows my 7200.11 RAID 0 setup away, they are quiet and fast enough that I sometimes forget it's not a 1TB SSD. This is my Programs/Games/Files drive so I can't comment on Windows boot times but I'm sure they're good as file copy speeds have been very high. My only concern is reliability but only time will tell whether these are built to last.

Everything expected so far. Noticeably faster than my older WD Black 640 GB. Loads 1080 movies instantly and allows me to browse through all my data easily. Cannot say anything for the reliability since it is new, so I am reserving a star for that, and the fact that the warranty is only 1 year, which is a lot less than Western Digital's. I am very satisfied with the drive so far and would recommend it. At below 70$ it's hard to find a better deal.

The performance increase is noticed even on older motherboards with only sata 2 connections using "performancemark" from "passmark.com".

Got this as an early bday present becuase I really needed a new HD, works well, tested it with Seagate's HD diagnostic tools to make sure its all good (since lots of reviews were saying it was faulty on first run) works well and will fulfill my needs.
if you are stripped on cash and cant afford to buy a better WD Black then I recommend the seagates over other brands.
931.53GB out of the box.

I just got this today and had somewhat of an annoying time trying to get it to work. Read the full summary if your drive is not showing up in your "My Computer" even though it is recognized in the BIOS and device manager or if it's just not finding the drivers folder.

I installed Seagate DiscWizard and that helped me configure the drive. Use GPT layout if you don't plan on using it with Windows XP or older.

It's a good hard drive so far. It's fast and I don't notice it being slower than the WD Caviar Black. It's a lot less loud than the Caviar Black 1 TB, although it's not silent. The 1 year warranty is a turn off but I would rather have this than hearing the annoyingly loud Caviar Black just by surfing the internet. I hope it won't fail in the long run.

Just purchased my 3rd. drive. Faster than my 1TB WD was. I`m using two of the drives in a Raid configuration. Works Great. Had one problem about a month ago and had to do a Low Level format to correct the problem. I don`t know what the cause of the Problem was since so I don`t know if it was cause by the drive or ie. virus, corrupt file or.... I just bought another one to replace my WD that crashed two days after the Warranty ended. So far I really like these drives.

I choose Seagate because WD is still charging more for the same capacity drive. Drive is quiet, can't hear any rattling. It is faster than the wd black serie but time will tell how reliable it is as Seagate's datasheet says 2400hrs only(-1). Don't know if they work well in raid configurations.

This has been a nice unit and I have no complaints about its speed to date. Data transfer has been very good, but I am still waiting a bit longer to fully trust it will not fail (my data is on 3 other drives right now). This price should be falling as the makers get back on line.
