Great ssd for price and size. Got this for an upgrade from a HDD on non-gaming rig. despite being older generation then current ssd's, this still does the trick and I think most uses would not notice a difference.

Great value Enough capacity for an SSD
|
No cons :-)
|
I highly recommend this SSD. It really upgraded my Windows 7 experience compared to my old WD 1TB hard drive. I use it to run a few web servers and a NAS in VMWare and it runs way much faster than before. Even tough i'm in SATA2, the performance is pretty awesome. The startup time is about 15 seconds and shutdown time is around 10 seconds.

Price was unbeatable, Drive is very fast and a huge improvement in my notebook over a spinning drive. Benchmarks at about 260MB/s in Sandra, which is much faster than my 120GB Force 3
|
It's a Sandforce controller, so incompressible data transfers suffer. Mediocre case on the SSD itself.
|
I a kicking myself for not buying more than one at the sale price, and from what I understand Agility isn't known for it's reliability, but thus far it's survived my brutal barrage of benchmarking and gaming so I'd recommend it to a friend.

Fast, easy install

None
|
Installation was quite easy enough. No directions in box though for installation/setup, had to figure it out on my own. Was able to update firmware with a little help from OCZ support forums. Much faster than my HDD I was using before.
I cloned my Windows installation from my HDD so I had to do some setup of the drive beforehand to align sectors and have proper partition size.
Would definitely recommend this as a main drive, not for storage (that's a bit overkill).

It's an SSD. Have mine partitioned into 2 partitions and it runs well. OS starts up to a usable state in about 15 seconds without any start-up tweaks. No reliability problems as of yet.

Quiet, lightning fast, light weight and generates virtually no heat.
|
Doesn't come with mounting brackets. I just used velcro and mounted it to the inside of the case.
|
I bought this because my regular sata2 platter based hard drive was simply generating too much noise and was too slow. I'm so glad I did because not only does it produce NO SOUND, it performs at least 10X faster. I installed Windows 7 Pro on it, What use to take 4-5 minutes to boot up to an idle desktop now only takes 20-30 seconds.
You need to make sure your motherboard is ACHI capable otherwise you won't realize the full performance of an SSD. Be sure to set the SSD to this format before you install anything to it. Follow the MB and SSD manual instructions on how this is done. I found it very straight forward.
If you want a significant performance increase in your system, don't by a new CPU just pickup one of these. It's the best investment I made for my PC yet.

approx 300 mB/sec read/write when working
|
frequent crashes make it unusable as a boot drive
|
I have installed this with a new Gigabyte motherboard and it is completely unstable. It will boot (I installed a new clean version of Windows 7 on it) run for a few hours and then apparently just "disappear" as the system freezes and upon restart the BIOS may or may not show it. A power down may help to bring it back to recognition. I am going to try some firmware and BIOS updates I think but I think people should be warned about the instablility of this product.

Fast, big enough for many people

SSD still subject to catastrophic failure
|
Drive died after 3 months of occasional use (not even recognized by BIOS). OCZ replacement proceedure seems straight-forward. Contact OCZ in Canada for a RMA, fill out forms, then mail them the dead drive.
It is worth remembering that although there are no moving parts, SSDs are still subject to failure. If that failure is in the controller, the drive is dead. Automatic backups onto a mechanical hard drive in the same computer case saved the day in this case.

- SSDs are much faster than HDD - OCZ is cheaper than the rest - 240GB is enough space to put everything you need. (OS, applications, games, etc.) Though, storage of files should be placed on an HDD.
|
- SSDs are difficult to maintain. There are many things to watch out for to maximize the life of an SSD. I suggest everyone to do extensive research before purchasing.
|
Great product for the price. I would recommend this (as well as the Vertex Series).

VERY fast compared to a HDD, Great price to size ratio as of May 2012, Fantastic power savings in a laptop vs magnetic hdd
|
Not as fast as some of the other drives out there when hooked up to Sata III. Doesn't come with a 2.5" to 3.5" drive adapter like it's big brother, the vertes 3 series.
|
Last year I upgraded my laptop from a 500GB magnetic drive to the 120GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD and absolultely loved it. Except for one thing: storage space! I was always running out of room on my drive, and with this being a 12" very portable laptop, I didn't have many options. I actually started keeping a 32GB SDHC card in all the time just for extra space.
So that lead me to constantly be drooling over larger SSD's. And 2 weeks ago the magic happened....I could get the 240GB version of my same SSD for uner $200. So I jumped on it and couldn't be happier.
What's so great? The notebook is only Sata II, so this drive totally maxes out the connection. Boot time went from 2 minutes (literally) to about 20 seconds in windows. Ubuntu 12.04 goes from me pressing power to firefox being usable in TEN SECONDS (again, LITERALLY).
Some people complain this drive is prone to errors and bad quality. I am NOT one of those people. I currently own the 60GB Agility 3, which is in a netbook, the 120GB, which was in my laptop for the past year, and now the 240GB, which is replaced the 120GB in my laptop.
I will say this though. I also bought a vertex 3 for my desktop a year ago, and I ran tests of the 60GB and 120GB Agility 3 against the Vertex 3 while hooked up to a P67 Intel native Sata III controller. While both drive families were incredibly fast, the Vertex 3 was considerably faster in benchmarks. However, that's only in benchmarks. When it came to actually doing every day tasks including playing games, I really didn't see any difference between the 2 drives.
And a quick quibble. Last year the OCZ drives came with a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter. This year they didn't.

Price On Sale, Decent Speeds. Windows Flies!
|
No Bracket Included (No Biggie). Firmware update MUST be done when drive is not set as main drive.
|
As advertised from other users this drive offers over slightly average speeds. I'm attaining Sequential Writes over 248MB/s on an AMD Phenom 960- 8Gig's Ram- Asus M5A88-M Sata 6GB's motherboard setup so not bad at all.
All in all the drive is great...got it on sale which was nice however I also update d the firmware before installing windows which was highly recommended. Also, you can't update firmware when this drive is set as the main drive so you have to install it into a separate system as a spare drive OR run Linux off a boot CD.
I'm never going back to a platter drive for my main drive now.

Had to RMA first drive received

I'm running this drive in my Thinkpad T510 laptop (SATAII) and am getting read/write speeds of 212MB/s and 231 MB/s, this is very good for sata 2. The random reads and writes are also very high, beating the absolute snot out of my SATA III Raid0 array of Kingston V100 SSD drives in my desktop. Highly recommended.

* Speed * Low price-per-GB for an SSD
|
* High price-per-GB compared to spinners * Rebates still suck
|
This is my first SSD, and didn't even go into my own computer (sadly), but all I can say is "wow."
I knew these things were fast by the numbers, but I still wasn't prepared for the performance difference. I put this in a friend's machine as his Windows + Games drive; he went from a 250GB PATA rattling old dinosaur of a drive to this, and the difference is remarkable. Even though his mobo is only SATA-II, this thing is still blazingly fast.
It certainly puts my own RAID-0 stripset to shame, especially noticeable on sequential reads (like when loading games, etc).
At this price, it's hard to refuse. This will be my next upgrade, I'm sure.

lots of space for the price on an SSD I liek the colour, not that it really matters much. decently fast, though maybe not the fastest out there.

None really.

I think this is the bargain drive to get. I got it on sale here for $269.99 and am really happy I did. great storage space for a sata 3 drive, stable (so far) and easy to use. It might not be the fastest SSD on the market but few other drives right now are offering this kind of cost per gig ratio. If you want the fastest move on, but if you want fast and a little more storage this is great. I use it for my steam files only. Works great. that way I can keep my intel drive for allt he other utility programs and boot drive.

Large Fast Cheap
|
Absolutely no accessories Dumb firmware update process Rebate - forgetaboutit
|
I'll start off by saying I'm not a fan of OCZ. I've found their RAM to be crapola. But the price was right for this 240 GB drive and I decided to give them a chance.
So far, so good. Be warned; the drive has asynchronous MLC NAND and absolutely no accessories. The Async NAND is a bit slower than the Synchronous but I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference in real world application. Regarding the accessories: No Drive conversion bracket, no screws but a small manual in many languages.
You don't download and install the firmware from the OCZ site. You download an app that you run with the non-booted Agility 3. The app goes out to the internet to check if you need firmware and then downloads and installs it if you do. Better hope your boot disk has the drivers for your network card!
Don't count on the rebate either. You'll be too old to spend it when/if it arrives. Corporate Canada/America: KNOCK IT OFF WITH REBATES!!!
All and all a good, big, cheap drive. It may not be the fastest but it's good enough for me.

- SATA 3 - Has been reliable so far. - Good alternative to Vertex 3 (if you don't mind the sacrifice in performance)
|
- Doesn't come with 3.5 in drive bay adapter. - Doesn't take full advantage of SATA 3 capabilities. - Didn't reach anywhere near the advertised speeds.
|
I'm giving this a five star because reliability is a top priority for me when it comes to SSDs. I'm mainly using this drive for Steam games, Office, Photoshop, and other apps which I use often. I haven't had any issues so far, it has been very reliable.
My only minor issue with this drive is the performance aspect.
I did a benchmark test against my SATA 2 Intel 320 160GB, and the results were not too far off. OCZ claims that the Agility 3 can read "up-to" 525 MB/s and write "up-to" 500 MB/s; however, I didn't get anything near those results in my benchmark tests.
It's not that I would notice any real world difference between the actual result and the results advertised so this is only a minor issue for me.
Overall, I highly recommend this product. This is a great alternative to the Vertex 3 if you don't mind the sacrifice in performance.
